Deposits, Age Rules & Insurance for Premium Cars
This is the part that trips people up, so here it is straight.
Security Deposit
Everyday cars in Georgia sometimes skip deposits entirely. Premium cars don't: expect $300-700 blocked on a card (or in cash) for luxury sedans and SUVs, and more for AMG and exotic models. It comes back after the car returns clean, undamaged and free of traffic fines.
Age & Experience
Standard cars rent at 21 with at least three years of driving history. Luxury, sport and large-SUV categories can require you to be 23 or 25. Under 25? Confirm the exact car's terms before you book.
Licence & IDP
Licences from Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, the USA and Canada work as they are for up to a year from entry. Any other licence needs an International Driving Permit or a certified translation, and honestly, an IDP smooths police checks for everyone.
Insurance & Excess
Most cars come with a collision damage waiver, but on a $100,000+ car you want full coverage. Read the deductible line: "included" coverage can still leave a four-figure excess on a premium vehicle.
Airport Delivery in Tbilisi, Kutaisi & Batumi
Most travellers want the car waiting at arrivals, and here that's standard practice: any delivery fee is already in the price you see, some cars deliver free, and your flight is tracked so a delay never costs you the car.

Self-Drive or Chauffeur? Be Honest About Your Trip
Georgia is one of those places where the "with driver" question deserves a real answer instead of a reflexive one.
Drive Yourself
City time plus paved highway runs to Kakheti, Kazbegi and Batumi are exactly what a self-drive luxury car is for. Stop at a monastery, a viewpoint or a roadside wine stand whenever you like.

Do You Need the Luxury SUV in the Mountains?
The famous drives are all comfortable in any premium sedan: the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi over the 2,379 m Jvari Pass, the Kakheti wine roads, the coastal run to Batumi. The SUV buys you confidence and clearance, not access.
Beyond the asphalt it flips. The Mestia-Ushguli track and the Abano Pass into Tusheti (around 2,900 m, no guardrails) demand a genuine high-clearance 4x4, and suppliers ban ordinary cars from them outright; driving one there anyway makes any damage 100% your problem. Four Drives That Justify the Upgrade
