Wild Camping in Georgia: The Actual Rules
Shorter than you expect, and better news than in most countries.
Open land
There is no general ban on wild camping. Meadows, valleys and forest edges outside protected areas are fair game, and locals camp there too. If shepherds are around, a hello goes a long way.
National parks
Inside national parks and protected areas you camp only at designated campsites, and some, like Vashlovani, require registering with the Agency of Protected Areas before you enter. Check at the park office on the way in.
Private land
Vineyards, orchards and fenced pasture are someone's livelihood. Ask first: the usual answer is yes, and it occasionally arrives with bread, cheese and a jar of homemade wine.
Fire and trash
Campfires are fine where a ring already exists and there is no wind or drought warning; the barbecue set travels with you for a reason. Pack out every piece of trash, including the foil.
